Good Riddance to yet another year of covid

We've survived yet another Covid year and once again it's left an impact. We only managed six WOW gatherings and half a retreat, which is at least an improvement on 2020.

Our extended times in lock down have seen a mix of reactions from our members - some took the time to throw themselves into quilting and other crafts, while come just lost their Sewjo all together, others were fortunate enough to keep on working but that came with a loss of free time and energy to do any sewing or quilting.

In our first gathering back for the year we got to see a couple of the ISO PROJECT Challenge quilts.

During the other gatherings throughout the year we were inspired by the prolific work of many of our WOW members, some were much more prolific than others but nevertheless we never tire of seeing their work. For those suffering from loss of Sewjo, we hope that seeing this work gets those juices going again.

We had an attempt at our Harrietville retreat this year. It started out well, we settled in and after reacquainting our selves with each other and getting to know the virgins, we abruptly found ourselves repacking as Victoria was thrown into yet another lock down on day 3 of our retreat. We managed, however to squeeze in some show and tell and a few very productive ladies got a great start on some projects.

During 2021 we did manage to squeeze in one workshop, which once again produced a variety of interpretations due to fabrics chosen and the extensive amount of layouts the block produces. We've seen a couple of finished quilts show up at WOW, we hope to see more of these wonderful quilts in 2022.

Continued lock downs do have some upsides, Fay has completed her home studio which I'm sure will see an increase in traffic this coming year. Fay has plans on using her studio to hold small workshops and private lessons, with two workshops already planned for early next year. For more information please contact Fay.

During the year despite all the disruptions we did reach the $2K mark of our fundraising for our chosen charity, The Royal Children's Hospital Educational Play Therapy.

We are also well on our way towards this goal for our next charity of choice - Mercy Ships.

So far this year we have raised close to $700.

For those of you who have read this and are interested in joining in on our activities, our WOW Semester 1 dates are now available. They are always listed on the website under WOW, however for convenience I will list them below.

Fay has not yet set dates yet for the January workshops however, two are planned. The first is a Foundation Pieced Table Centre & placemat workshop which will run from 10am - 4pm at $45. The second is a Series of monthy Scrapology Workshops. These will be run from her Studio on a Weekday and Saturday.

Please contact Fay for more information or to register your interest in either of these workshops.

Throughout this year Fay has also been working on a line of Block books and Design Boards. If you are after either of these very useful items please contact Fay with your desired size. She currently has several Block books in stock and is taking orders for Design Boards. The design boards come in several sizes :

  • Large Single

  • Large Double - $60

  • Small Single

  • Small Double - $35

  • Block books vary in price from $50 -$65, the larger ones holding 16 12" blocks comfortably on non pill felt wadding pages.

Fay is also discovering plenty of wonderful fabrics she has had stashed away, some are being cut up into fat quarters, while others are being sold in end of bolt or 1-2m pieces. Every time I drop in or Fay brings them to WOW there are always new pieces to discover.

If you are looking for something a little special why not take a look sometime.

Until we see you again thank you again for all of your support, please stay COVID safe and have very Happy New Year.
